If Tina Brown can’t return Newsweek to profitability, it won’t be for lack of ability to attract talent.
The magazine will Monday announce that the editor has grabbed another boldface name in Simon Schama, the U.K.-born historian, New Yorker magazine critic and Columbia University professor. Mr. Schama will join the magazine in June as a contributor to both the Daily Beast website and Newsweek, which Ms. Brown has overseen since the two properties agreed to merge late last year.
Mr. Schama, who will continue to write for the New Yorker but less frequently, joins a string of notable writers recruited by Ms. Brown. Others include Peter Boyer from the New Yorker, political blogger Andrew Sullivan from the Atlantic and fashion-writer Robin Givhan from the Washington Post.
