Davidson College announced its new president this afternoon.

Rice University historian and administrator Carol Quillen was appointed as the college’s 18th president, reports DavidsonNews.net.

She will take the place of Tom Ross, who left Davidson College last year to become president of the University of North Carolina system.

Quillen is currently an associate professor of history and vice president for international and interdisciplinary initiatives at Rice University in Houston.

She’s the first woman appointed president, according to DavidsonNews.net, and the first non-Davidson graduate to become president since the 1940s.
